What is Spirit Keeping?
A basic walkthrough for beginners
What is Spirit Keeping?
A Spirit Guide or Companion is a discarnate Spirit or Energy being that acts as a guide or protector to a living incarnated human being. It can also be a still living Entity in another realm. In it's currently popular form, Spirit Keeping as a practice is just a couple decades old.
Spirit communication, conjuring and channeling on the other hand has been around for as long as humans have died. This practice is not tied to any one specific culture or religion, there is no one true authority on Spirit Comunication or Keeping.

What is the purpose of Keeping Spirits?
If you are into any kind of magickal practice, having spirit friends who radiate the energies you need and want to help you on your personal path can be profoundly rewarding. Communicating with Spirits is in no way an closed or exclusive practice, anyone who has a genuine interest can do so simply by using their natural extrasensory perception. These entities show themselves and communicate with you via Meditation, Astral Projection, Lucid Dreams, Telepahty and various analog and digital Divination methods. If you spend time to properly bond with a compatible companion they will always be there for you as long as you mutually enjoy eachother's company. As the strenght of your relationship increases over time, greater and more poweful results become possible.
How are Spirits Conjured and bound?
Methods differ greatly between different cultures and varying personal practices. Spirit conjuring can be a potentially dangerous act that requires good discernment and proper protection. If you are interested in learning how to Conjure and Bind spirits, it is always best to find a practitioner you trust and learn directly from them 1-on-1. Each practitioner also has their own personal own way of making contracts and binding the spirits they conjure to humans or vessels. A general overview of the steps involved in Conjuring & Binding are: bringing forth and learning how to summon a certain spirit (It is important to get to know them properly!), coming to an agreement with said spirit regarding being bound to a human spirit or vessel for the purpose of companionship- and then the binding ritual itself.

What is the difference between Pre-Conjured Spirits and Custom Conjures?
Pre-Conjured Spirits are properly vetted by the conjurer and waiting to be bound to a human spirit.
When a Spirit is bound to your spiritual essence, the initial bonding can be quicker and smoother and there is no risk of losing the vessel that otherwise acts as the entity's home base". At Spiral Horn Magic our spirits are free to temporarily leave their vessel or keeper's essence whenever they wish but they are indeed bound by contract and will return. No entity is bound against their will, however, as we exclusively bind spirits who seek human companionship.
A Custom Conjure is a reversed alternative where the conjurer introduces the essence of the keeper to a group of entities to see who resonates with them. Performing a Custom Conjure takes more time as the Spirit has to be vetted properly before it is considered safe and sent to the Keeper. There are two common versions of Custom Conjurations, a Reverse Adoption or a Species Conjure. A Reverse Adoption is when the keeper's essence is introduced to many different kinds of entities that the Conjurer is in contact with to find a match, a Species Conjure is much more specific and only introduces the essence to a choosen species.
In the case of Living Entities, bindings work differently. A Living Entity will only be available to communicate with you when they can fit it into their schedule, so you might not get a hold of them every single time you attempt to. On the other hand, they can use the binding to alert you when they are available and thus create a very natural daily back-and-forth.

What is a Servitor? How is a Servitor different from other Entities?
A servitor in this context is an advanced thought form deliberately created by the Conjurer to serve a specific purpose. Servitors are bound to the will of the creator. A thought form always focuses on given tasks unlike beings that truly have minds of their own. If adopted, they become bound to the will of the Keeper they serve. The servitor can have any shape or none at all, it is all up to the skill and wishes of it's creator. They can be re-programmed at a later point to help with different things than what they were initially created for. Unlike Spirits, they require attention and offerings to keep existing and will slowly diminish if forgotten.
Is it Dangerous to Keep Bound Entities?

How do I communicate with Spirits?
There are countless ways of contacting Spirits, unbound and bound alike. In Norse magickal practice, there are specific methods such as looking through holes in trees or bending down to peep between your own legs to get a glimpse of the Spirit world and their inhabitants. All over the world, different people have found different ways of looking at and communicating with the multiple concealed worlds on the other side of the hedge.
Popular methods of spirit communication globally include Telepathy, Meditation, Dreams, Astral work, Tarot & Oracle decks, Normand, Runic divination, Lithomancy, I Ching, Oujia Boards, Shufflemancy, Technomancy, Catoptromancy, Cartomancy and more.

How do I give offerings to a Spirit? Are they a must?
Give an offering by placing the item you want to offer on your altar next to a vesseled spirit, or by saying it's name and letting it know it's for them.
You should not leave out/use/eat/keep offerings; after an offering has been given, you can just leave it out for a bit and then dispose of it. If you are uncertain wether your spirit is finished with your offering, you can check by placing a pendulum over it. If the pendulum is steady, your spirit has finished and you can throw out the physical item. It means has been duplicated and is in their realm for them to enjoy.
If the offering is not an item, still say their name to let them know the activity or other kind of gift is for them.
Offerings are a must to establish a strong bond. No spirits I know of stay happy without ever receiving any offerings from their keeper.

How fast can I expect Results?
Growing a relationship with your spirit will always take time; visting them in your Astral space, invoking them during magickal practice and regularly asking them for advice. You can expect that as with any synergistic relationships, the effects grow stronger with time and dedication. Many spirits will be happy to help you on your path, however, you still need to do what is required of you in the physical world to attain your life goals. Do not listen to individuals who make false claims and accusations based on unrealistic ideas regarding what Spirits should and should not be able to accomplish in the physical realm. If you need reassurance, talk to experienced conjurers & sirit workers who know the nature of spirit work best.
